The vast expansiveness of the Internet makes it difficult to catalogue web sites. And it means that most netizens unduly rely upon a favorite information source. Often, that source is the service provider homesite - like AOL. Most others will use only one or two search engines.

But, as all experienced searchers know, different search engines produce different results. Which engines are more precise, or current? Which use the same database, and which crawl the Web themselves? What are the different types of searches? How many different search sources are there?

 
Don't try to answer! There are many wonderful people doing their best to assemble reference desks of information. Some will focus their efforts in a specific domain and know those best sources. Others work to cover as much ground as possible, and to organize sites by subjects and activities.
